Intro to Boarding School Math

There is surprising diversity among American high school math programs; integrated mathematics programs blend concepts from different branches of mathematics into single class offerings, some schools emphasize mathematics application within a larger STEM framework (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), while others offer a traditional sequence of algebra, geometry, and calculus.  Some programs may culminate in Advanced Placement classes, International Baccalaureate exams, or individual capstone projects.

The purpose of this 20 hour course is to equip students with a foundation of content and skills necessary to get off to a great start in any high school mathematics program.  Pre-algebra, elementary geometry, introductory algebra, and introductory statistics are emphasized.  Memorization of formulas and algorithms is deemphasized in favor of developing conceptual understanding, problem solving, and reasoning.
