What is an accredited online high school?

Prestans Online Academy is an accredited online high school: we have been independently certified for rigor and quality by one of the major external accreditation agencies (Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools). Prestans Online Academy grants credits, transcripts, and diplomas that are accepted by other secondary schools, colleges, and universities.

Do Colleges Accept Online High School Diplomas?

Yes. All major colleges and universities accept credits and degrees from online high schools that have been accredited by one of the major accreditation agencies.

Who is Online High School Right For?

Online high school is right for students who seek flexibility with their academic schedules. Students who are self-disciplined and eager to be leaders of their education can thrive in an online setting.

What is Synchronous and Asynchronous Instruction?

Synchronous instruction (or instructor-led learning) occurs when students participate in a live online class with their teacher.

Asynchronous learning allows students to learn on their own schedules, within a certain timeframe. Asynchronous instruction includes, for example, recorded lectures, video tutorials, reading assignments, writing assignments, practice problems, and online labs.

At Prestans Online Academy, we combine scheduling flexibility and synchronous class touchpoints. Synchronous class sessions are essential to helping students navigate and process course material. Experienced classroom teachers guide students through their academic program in a way that no algorithm or software program can replicate.

How Long Does Online School Take Per Day? How Does It All Work at Prestans?

Each class meets for two 60-minute sessions per week. Each full-year class meets for 30 total sessions and has approximately 60-90 hours of asynchronous course work. Fully enrolled students take 4-5 classes per year with Prestans Online Academy.

Does the Prestans curriculum cover the core academic requirements?

Yes. Prestans Online Academy offers courses in the four core academic subjects for a full academic year: language arts, mathematics, core sciences, and social sciences. We also offer world languages including Spanish, French, and Latin and elective style courses, such as Digital Art and Personal Finance.

How do I apply for online school?

Our application process is straightforward and painless! The steps to apply can be found here.

How do I switch to online school?

Prestans offers enrollment periods throughout the year. Our team examines academic records and creates a customized plan, allowing students to shift into Prestans’ versions of the courses they were taking at their previous school.

Is online school harder than regular school??

Online learning requires self-discipline and good time management. Prestans proactively supports each student’s move to online learning in the following ways:

  • Consistent synchronous instruction with caring, dedicated teachers.

  • Small class size: A Prestans Online Academy class will never have more than 5 students. Most classes are 3-4 students.

  • Advisory: Prestans students are assigned an Advisor to assist in time management, organization, and executive functioning skills.

Do kids like online schooling?

How do colleges view online schools?

The most competitive colleges in the US consider regional accreditation and academic rigor when evaluating an online high school. Prestans is accredited by the MSA-CESS and offers honors and AP level courses.

How do the classes work?

Prestans students take 4-5 classes per year with a total of 75 hours of "time on task" for each class. The time on task is split between synchronous classes (60 minutes/week) and 45-65 hours of asynchronous work. The schedule is flexible so students can choose mornings, noon, or night synchronous class times.

How flexible is the schedule?

Classes are offered at multiple times during the day and different times during the year. If your extracurricular activity occurs during a certain season, classes can be scheduled in the other seasons.

Why do synchronous classes matter?

Personal connection is paramount to academic success so we prioritize fostering relationships between teachers and students. Research shows that students are more engaged when they feel an emotional connection to their teacher. Our teachers are genuinely interested in the lives of our students and take great care to get to know each of their students.
