Academic Mentorship
Prestans’ Academic Mentorship program allows students to work one-on-one with teachers to help them to understand and complete their current assignments, to fill in knowledge gaps, and to learn the study skills and strategies that lead to academic success in American schools. Our teachers provide feedback on drafts, craft lessons that reinforce concepts students struggle with in school, and anticipate and address weaknesses. This targeted, proactive tutoring helps students manage a challenging transition and achieve better academic results. For many international students, the transition to American classrooms can be daunting – changes in expectations and teaching styles can be disorienting and can cause capable students to struggle with coursework. Prestans Online Academy seeks to improve students’ academic performance in American schools and helps prepare students for success in high schools with the Academic Mentorship program. All Prestans teachers for the Academic Mentorship program have prior experience serving as full time faculty at a reputable American boarding school.
Interview Prep
Prestans’ Interview Prep program is designed for students to prepare for interviews at American Boarding Schools by taking part in practice or “mock” interviews with former Admissions Officers from top ranked US boarding schools. By design, each admission officer structures their interview prep sessions slightly differently. When students attend interviews at schools, they will speak with different admission officers who have different personalities, perspectives and interview styles. Prestans mock interviews intentionally mirror the varied interviews students will experience during their application process. In general, our interview prep instructors ask students a variety of mock interview questions and offer them constant feedback on their answers and demeanor. During an interview, our admissions officers pay close attention to student answers and behavior so that they can give them concrete, specific feedback on how to improve in these two key areas.
Small Group Courses
Prestans’ small group classes provide students the opportunity to partake in boarding school style classes online to gain experience working with current and former teachers from top US boarding schools in Harkness discussion based course settings. Prestans courses are designed for students preparing for the boarding school application cycle (competition based writing courses and literature based courses), students preparing to attend US boarding schools for the first time (introduction to US History and English literature courses) as well as for students preparing for AP exams.
College and Boarding School Application Essay Support
Prestans’ Application Essay Support provides students with a highly customized option for support and instruction as they work to craft well-organized and compelling application essays for both US Colleges and Universities and US Boarding Schools. 1-on-1 sessions between Prestans teachers and counselors allow students to explore basic elements of narrative writing, including theme, setting, characters and plot, and also explore how the difference between “telling” and “showing” can powerfully engage admissions readers. Prestans’ Application Essay Support is exclusively staffed by teachers and counselors from top US boarding schools. Prestans teachers implicitly understand the narratives and writing that will help the applicant stand out during the application process. Length of essay packages may be customized depending on the number of essays/writing style of the student applicant.
Test Prep
Prestans Online Academy’s Test Prep Intensive Programs are designed to provide students the opportunity to study with expert instructors leading up to standardized exams. Prestans Test Prep courses are taught by knowledgeable instructors with years of experience helping students prepare for SSAT, SAT, TOEFL, ACT and other standardized tests. Test Prep courses are meticulously designed to provide student participants with tips and strategies for understanding test taking strategies and preparing for tests and achieving goals effectively.
Credit Bearing Courses
In addition to the Enrichment options listed above, Prestans is also a fully accredited online high school. An increasing number of students are looking to take single credit courses online during the summer or school year as a means of moving ahead in subject tracks. Prestans single credit courses are a highly sought-after option for partners looking to provide credit-bearing options to their students.
