Tell us a little about your background in education.
I was a full-time high school teacher for seven years at different private schools, both boarding and day, across the US. I taught high school Physics, Algebra I and II, and also coached several teams and [was an advisor]. I got my masters in education from the University of Pennsylvania during my two year teaching fellowship at Deerfield Academy from 2015 to 2017.
How did your own teachers influence your approach to education?
I learned the best from teachers who were approachable and forged a connection with their students. I felt these teachers saw me, believed in me, and pushed me, which made me want to succeed in return. I try to provide that same warmth and connection for my students, so I can best teach to their individual needs, as well as motivate them to reach their ever-changing potential. I strive to provide a safe place for students to try and fail, a setting in which taking risks does not feel so daunting, because that is the kind of environment that is essential for growth.
What do you enjoy most about teaching online at Prestans?
I love meeting students from around the world and all walks of life. Many of the students are receiving online education because they are exceptional athletes, their parents travel the world, or they need a break from the conventional schooling environment for whatever reason. I love learning about these students and figuring out how to best suit their needs; each case is a unique challenge! I also appreciate the support from the leaders and administrators at Prestans who are patient, communicative, and energetic. It has been an extremely positive work environment for me.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love all things film, fitness, music, and cats! In addition to teaching with Prestans, I am an actress and a part-time pilates instructor. I spend a lot of time on set, reading scripts, watching movies, working out with friends and clients or, when I’m not working, playing piano, seeing live music, and going to music festivals.
